The healing modality using Reiki / universal life force was re-discovered and retrieved by Makao Usui through the use of fasting and prayer for three weeks on Mount Kurama Japan in 1922

Makao Usui was a Methodist went to University in Chicago searched for the power of Miraculous Heal after his mystical experience in 1922 man miraculous healings were attributed to his laying on of hands, and distance healing.
Reiki has been passed on through teaching and the practice of ritual blessings called Attunements since 1922.
